2023 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Wild Atlantic Salmon Conservation
The New Brunswick Salmon Council is proud to announce that Mark Hambrook was selected as the 2023 recipient of the Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Wild Atlantic Salmon Conservation.
Mark is a highly deserving recipient, recognized for his decades of leadership, dedication, and hands-on contributions to salmon conservation in New Brunswick. As former President of the Miramichi Salmon Association and a lifelong advocate for Atlantic salmon, Mark has played a pivotal role in river restoration, hatchery operations, science-based management, and public education. His work has directly contributed to the protection and enhancement of critical salmon habitat across the province.
This award honours Mark’s enduring legacy and the positive impact he has made on the future of wild Atlantic salmon in New Brunswick.
Congratulations, Mark, and thank you for your outstanding service to salmon conservation.

This video of striped bass moving upstream and into fresh water was taken at head-of-tide on the NW Miramichi on May 21, 2022. This was a week after the smolt run started. This bass migration occurred for several hours. They could be caught on virtually every cast with a streamer fly, so were definitely feeding. DFO claims striped bass have no effect on the NW Miramichi salmon population. Draw your own conclusion.
